Registered Nurse (RN, Behavioral Health) - Inpatient Geriatric Unit

Join Connecticut’s most comprehensive healthcare network as a Registered Nurse in the Greater Manchester Region, which includes Manchester Memorial Hospital (249-bed community hospital), Rockville General (102-bed facility), a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. The region serves 300,000 people across 19 towns with approximately 2,500 employees.

Utilizing the nursing process, you will provide high-quality direct and indirect patient-centered care, coordinate care with the interdisciplinary team, and communicate patient clinical conditions. You will create and maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic milieu with age-specific behavioral management practices, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of the patient’s condition, including psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural aspects.
• Assesses and reassesses pain, utilizing appropriate pain management tools and educating the patient and family regarding pain management.
• Develops and revises individualized treatment plans based on patient assessment and response, involving the patient and family in goal formulation.
• Follows the five medication rights and demonstrates knowledge of medications, including psychotropic drugs and their correct administration.
• Performs patient care in an environment that optimizes safety and promotes positive outcomes.
• Documents the nursing process and patient responses to care in a timely manner.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and critical thinking under stressful situations, including priority setting and delegation.
• Formulates and evaluates teaching plans based on identified learning needs, including family in teaching as appropriate.
• Practices autonomously, consistent with evidence-based standards, and pursues personal and professional growth.
• Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment, demonstrating clinical expertise, perceptiveness, empathy, and interpersonal warmth.
• Uses psychological and physical management techniques to manage violent or potentially violent situations, consistent with PMT training.
• Participates in Early Response codes, Dr. Strong codes, and PMT refresher trainings.
• Sets limits with patients and maintains appropriate professional and personal boundaries.
• Collaborates and communicates with the treatment team to meet patient needs.
• Provides psychotherapeutic treatment to patients, including individual interventions and nurse-led educational/psychotherapeutic groups.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing with a current Registered Nurse license in Connecticut.
• Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) upon hire and maintained during employment.
• Training and certification in PMT and de-escalation techniques within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Basic computer skills.
• Capability to take swift and efficient action, including patient restraint during emergencies.
