About the role
The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers nursing care in a structured, age-appropriate therapeutic environment for children (ages 5–12) and adolescents (ages 13–17) and their families. This position is cross-trained to work in both the 40-bed Adolescent Program and the 14-bed Child Program.
Schedule
- Evening and night shifts with rotating weekends and holidays
- Nurses with 3+ years of experience: every 3rd weekend, every other holiday
- Nurses with < 3 years of experience: every other weekend, every other holiday
Pay
$32.50 – $48.50 per hour; actual rate dependent on experience. This position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $15,000.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories, examining patients, documenting physical and psychological status, and conferring with families and physicians
- Provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary team members to deliver high-quality care
- Teach patients, families, and friends about conditions, medications, and self-care skills
- Evaluate and adjust care plans based on changing patient needs and therapeutic standards
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy patient environment by adhering to infection-control policies, medication administration procedures, and legal regulations
- Document patient care services accurately in patient and department records
- Maintain patient care equipment and supplies
- Uphold professional nursing competence as outlined by leadership
Qualifications
- Active RN license in the state of practice (South Dakota)
- Ability to work specified hours, including visual acuity and effective communication skills
- Preferred: 1–3 years of clinical experience, especially in behavioral health or pediatric/adolescent care
