About the Role

The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care to residents and supervises day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Supervision is conducted in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure the highest level of quality care.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants in compliance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Ensure nursing personnel adhere to written policies and procedures established by the Community.
  • Plan shifts' services, programs, and activities with assigned nursing staff and support personnel.
  • Make written and oral reports concerning shift activities as required.
  • Coordinate with other resident services to maintain the resident's total regimen of care.
  • Ensure nursing service personnel comply with their respective job descriptions.
  • Participate in Community surveys and inspections by authorized government agencies.
  • Review and update residents' written discharge plans as required.
  • Interpret department policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies.
  • Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, wound care, colostomy care, and range of motion exercises.
  • Perform lab tests, blood pressure monitoring, and other routine tasks as per the resident care plan.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
  • Complete medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting duties.
  • Encourage physicians to review treatment plans and document orders and progress notes.
  • Receive and transcribe telephone orders from physicians.
  • Chart nursing notes descriptively reflecting care provided and resident responses.
  • Complete and submit accident/incident reports per Community policy.
  • Record and forward new or changed diet orders to the Dietary Department.
  • Inform the Nurse Supervisor of staffing needs and report absenteeism.
  • Review and evaluate department workforce and make recommendations.
  • Develop work assignments and assist in completing them.
  • Conduct rounds to ensure staff perform their work assignments as expected.
  • Maintain good working relationships with co-workers and other departments.
  • Review and report complaints and grievances to the RCC and/or Unit Manager.
  • Provide and receive nurse reports at shift changes.
  • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals.
  • Monitor personnel to ensure compliance with safety regulations for equipment and supplies.
  • Recommend equipment and supply needs to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Review care plans daily to ensure appropriate care is rendered.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information.

Requirements

  • Valid professional RN license in good standing with the State.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to work beyond normal hours, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Ability to assist in resident evacuation during emergencies.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Use of a transfer/gait belt or assistance from another employee when lifting or carrying objects over 25 pounds.
