Registered Nurse (RN) - Acute Care, Medical/Surgical, FT, Nights

Job Summary

Provides clinical direction for all aspects of patient care in an acute inpatient setting, fostering patient‑family centered care. Demonstrates clinical competency utilizing evidence‑based practices and research throughout the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes). Incorporates safety protocols, cost containment, and quality improvement. Identifies patient, unit, and organizational priorities and integrates them into care. Adheres to all organizational policies, including licensure renewal, training, health screenings, attendance, dress code, confidentiality, infection control, and medication administration. Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory requirements (TJC, SC DPH, CMS) and practices within the scope of the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act. The role may require weekend, holiday, and on‑call work.

Essential Functions

• Collects data and completes nursing assessments using appropriate standards, policies, and tools; completes required forms.
• Recognizes subtle or actual changes in patient status and response to interventions; identifies nursing priorities for the plan of care and validates them with the healthcare team.
• Develops individualized plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, providers, and the interdisciplinary team; updates and communicates changes as needed.
• Establishes realistic, measurable goals and outcomes prior to discharge and validates them with patients/families.
• Respects patients’ cultural, spiritual, and belief systems in care planning.
• Plans for discharge to ensure continuity of care and smooth transitions, including appropriate referrals.
• Provides direct care consistent with the established nursing plan and unit policies.
• Delegates nursing tasks appropriately, creates written assignments when required, and ensures task completion.
• Monitors quality of care continuously, ensuring appropriate surveillance of assigned patients.
• Coordinates and organizes tasks based on patient and unit priorities, utilizing internal and external resources.
• Incorporates cost‑containment principles into nursing care and utilizes appropriate technology daily.
• Maintains a safe environment, adhering to safety procedures, protocols, and patient‑care standards.
• Uses performance indicators to collect data, monitor quality, and assess effectiveness of nursing care.
• Completes assigned performance‑improvement monitoring (audits) for the hospital/unit.
• Evaluates patient response to interventions, revises the plan of care as needed, and documents progress toward outcomes.
• Reports changes in patient condition and refers unresolved problems to appropriate team members.
• Discusses outcomes with peers during shift‑to‑shift reports and with other healthcare team members.
• Identifies opportunities for quality improvement and integrates performance‑improvement recommendations into care plans.
• Assesses patient/family learning needs, provides education using familiar language, implements and evaluates teaching plans, and documents education needs for the care continuum.
• Evaluates personal nursing practice against professional standards, state statutes, policies, and current knowledge; maintains competency through education and professional activities.
• Maintains professional licensure and completes required mandatory education promptly.
• Ensures documentation and oral communication focus on pertinent information to support patient/family needs.
• Advocates for patients and coordinates care collaboratively with providers and the healthcare team.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Associate degree in Nursing (ADN). Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred. A nursing diploma with RN licensure is acceptable in lieu of an ADN.
• Experience: One (1) year of RN experience. In lieu of RN experience, successful completion of the Prisma Health Nurse Residency Program or a comparable residency, or one (1) year of LPN experience for internal candidates within the same service line.
• Certifications, Registrations, Licenses: Current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State, or RN licensure in the state of practice.

Schedule

Night shift (United States of America). The acute inpatient setting may require weekend, holiday, and on‑call work.
