About the role
The VA Midwest Health Care Network operates under a Whole Health System of care, aiming to empower Veterans to manage their health and well-being. As a Registered Nurse in the Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP), you will play a crucial role in assessing mental health behaviors, completing admissions and discharge processes, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Assessment of mental health behaviors with appropriate interventions as ordered by providers
- Obtain baseline vital signs, weight, height, and complete documentation in CPRS
- Complete the admissions and discharge process alongside the admissions team
- Successfully utilize the breathalyzer, clean the device, and document findings in the patient's medical record according to policy
- Complete mandatory and annual competencies for equipment and procedures, adhere to unit-based protocols, maintain a current BLS certification, and collaborate with other disciplines in the Medical Center
- Participate in in-services and performance improvement activities and customer services programs at unit and service line levels
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care based on age-specific components
- Consider all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences
- Administer medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines
- Influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team
- Exhibit core elements of performance, including knowledge of unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs
- May be required to transport and care for patients off-site of the main campus location
Requirements
- English Language Proficiency
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by an accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE
- Current full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia
- Credential for Grandfathering Provision: All persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series and performing duties as described in the qualification standard on 1/29/2024 are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held including positive education and licensure/certification
Qualifications
- Nurse I - Level I: Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no additional professional nursing required
- Nurse I - Level II: ADN or Diploma in Nursing AND 1 year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I - Level 1; OR BSN with no additional professional nursing experience required
- Nurse I - Level III: ADN or Diploma in Nursing AND 2 years of professional nursing experience in which one year is equivalent to Nurse I - Level 2; OR BSN and 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the Nurse I - Level 2; OR MSN and no additional professional nursing experience; OR Master's degree in a related field with a BSN and no additional professional nursing experience
- Nurse II: BSN with 2 years of professional nursing equivalent to Nurse I - Level 3; OR MSN with one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I - Level 3; OR Master's degree in a related field with a BSN and one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I - Level 3; OR Doctoral degree in Nursing with no professional nursing experience; OR Doctoral degree in a related field with a BSN and one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I - Level 3
- Nurse III: MSN and 2 years of specialized nursing experience - one of which is equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III; OR Master's degree in a related field with BSN and two years of specialized nursing experience - one of which is equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III; OR Doctoral degree in Nursing with and one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III; OR Doctoral degree in a related field with a BSN and one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III
