Registered Nurse PRN
Southwest Behavioral and Health Services is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to help fulfill our mission: “Delivering compassionate care to enhance lives and improve communities.” We are looking for someone who is empathetic, caring, and has excellent communication skills to join our dynamic Phoenix team.
About the role
The Crisis and Recovery Unit provides behavioral health interventions in a structured, non-hospital setting that assists adults in resolving behavioral crisis. Services are provided in a locked facility with 24-hour nursing coverage on the premises, and court-ordered treatment is also provided. This position is a PRN (work as needed) role reporting to our Phoenix Inpatient programs.
Your primary responsibility will be working with adult patients needing psychiatric care and supervising the crisis unit. As a strong individual contributor with no direct reports, you will provide recovery-based services in a secure environment for consumers in varying levels of crisis. You will also influence various team members and work collaboratively with the psychiatric prescriber. No two days are the same, offering diverse challenges and opportunities to use your nursing skills.
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Availability for days or nights required
- Generous shift differential offered
Pay
$50.00 per hour plus shift differential.
Responsibilities
- Provide psychiatric care and supervise the crisis unit in a locked, 24-hour nursing facility
- Work with agitated service participants in crisis and their families to implement behavioral management interventions
- Document services, treatment participation, and patient progress
- Collaborate with psychiatric prescribers and influence team members
- Apply knowledge of psychiatric medications, their indications, side effects, and interactions
- De-escalate and defuse crisis situations using crisis intervention techniques
- Perform duties with minimal supervision, direct and supervise a team, and function as a team member
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license in the State of Arizona
- One to two years of experience in psychiatric nursing
- Experience in a community-based psychiatric practice preferred
- Thorough comprehension of psychiatric practice and Arizona Mental Health Law
- Knowledge of the petition process, State of Arizona Nursing Rules and Regulations, and crisis intervention techniques
- Ability to complete a pre-employment physical examination and TB test
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
