About the Role
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the treatment and care of surgical patients. They record patient symptoms, administer medications, assist with patient rehabilitation, educate patients and family members about medical conditions, and provide emotional support. RNs work within the surgical team to provide care before, during, and after surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care during pre-surgical, operative, and recovery periods; collaborate with medical staff and other departments to coordinate patient care.
- Ensure quality of care by adhering to compliance standards, ASC philosophies, and state regulations.
- Create a compassionate environment by offering emotional and psychological support to patients, friends, and families.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protect patients and staff by adhering to infection-control policies, medication administration protocols, and controlled substance regulations.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and safeguard operations.
Requirements
- ASN or BSN degree required.
- Current Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification must be obtained within one year of employment.
- Minimum of one year of operating room experience preferred.
Physical Demands
- Physical activity includes standing for sustained periods, stooping, grasping, lifting, talking, and hearing.
- Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
- Close visual acuity required for all activities.
- Potential exposure to anesthesia gases, bloodborne pathogens, communicable diseases, hazardous waste, moving equipment parts, and sharp objects.
