Responsibilities

• Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA.
• Assess patient’s preoperative and postoperative status at intervals according to facility or health care organization policies, including cardiovascular, respiratory, airway management, neurological, hemodynamic stability, pain and comfort, and mental status.
• Interpret information accurately from noninvasive and invasive monitors.
• Describe the underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes.
• Describe the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions.
• Apply relevant scoring systems/discharge criteria (e.g., Aldrete Score, Modified Aldrete Score, PADSS, White) accurately as defined by organizational policy.
• Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care.
• Implement the plan of care, including:
  • Preparing for and managing patient recovery from anesthesia (general, monitored anesthesia care, regional, local).
  • Protecting patients from injury caused by positioning, thermal sources, and extraneous objects.
  • Communicating the patient’s current status throughout the perianesthesia continuum.
  • Providing acute pain and comfort management.
  • Administering medications safely using the 8-rights of safe medication administration.
  • Maintaining wound integrity and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
  • Performing interventions to maintain or return the patient’s genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems, fluid/electrolyte/acid-base balances, and normothermia.
  • Protecting patients from infection.
  • Managing co-morbid conditions and fluids as prescribed.
• Assess and educate patients or designated support persons on expected psychosocial responses, nutritional management, medication management, pain/comfort management, wound care, and responses to operative or invasive procedures.
• Involve patients or support persons actively in decisions affecting their perioperative plan of care and rehabilitation.
• Protect patient rights, dignity, and privacy.
• Provide age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
• Deliver consistent and comparable care regardless of setting.
• Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes and transfer care as needed.
• Provide accurate, concise, and pertinent hand-off reports to teammates.
• Delegate tasks according to state Nurse Practice Act, board of nursing requirements, and job descriptions.
• Document nursing care completely, accurately, and legibly.
• Collaborate effectively with other disciplines.
• Participate in quality review, performance improvement projects, and the performance appraisal process.
• Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships.
• Maintain required competencies and pursue professional growth.
• Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy/confidentiality of health information.
• Comply with all facility policies and procedures when providing patient care.
• Actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and daily safety huddles.
• Demonstrate fiscal responsibility.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
• One year of Pre Operative or PACU experience required; medical/surgical nursing experience.
• Current state licensure to practice in good standing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within 90 days of employment (or current certification).
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of employment (or current certification).
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required if pediatric care is included in facility scope (within 90 days or current certification).

Pay

USD $36.00–$43.00 per hour.
