Registered Nurse - Pre-Op/PACU RN - Prior Surgical Services or Acute Care Required - PRN/Casual

Responsibilities
- Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, ensuring understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria.
- Demonstrate ability to identify opportunities for and give individualized customer service/patient care according to customer/patient needs.
- Perform an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the assigned patient's ongoing nursing care needs. Include data from the patient/significant other(s) in the assessment as appropriate.
- Prioritize data collection according to patient's immediate needs. Use assessment findings in discharge planning.
- Develop/review/revise and individualize the plan of care to address the patient's nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcomes.
- Collaborate with providers and other clinical disciplines as appropriate. Provide teaching specific to the patient's health care problem.
- Evaluate patient care to determine response to care/interventions for optimal patient outcome. Monitor outcomes and document patient response to interventions.
- Continually monitor the patient and/or significant other(s) ability to manage care needs after dismissal. Give a complete verbal or written change of shift report to the oncoming care provider.
- Recognize and address patient and family capabilities and limitations (physical and mental).
- Perform technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety.
- Able to competently perform technical skills independently. Demonstrate correct and safe technique in the use of equipment according to specific product information and policy and procedure manuals.
- Maintain a professional behavior in attitude, demeanor, interactions to achieve organization's mission.
- Communicate effectively to solve problems at the personal and unit level. Take pride in the unit by actively participating in restocking and maintaining a clean environment.
- Maintain a professional appearance, behavior, and work environment. Participate in meetings and/or committees as needed to assist in decisions affecting area/unit or organization.
- Initiate action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risk(s) to the patient, family or hospital employees.
- Fiscally accountable. Act professionally responsible for human and other resources. Charge accurately for use of supplies and equipment according to policy.
Requirements
- Education: BSN or MSN from an accredited college of nursing required OR obtained within 5 years from date of hire for nurses with an ADN. For MJE Progressive Care: BSN from an accredited school of nursing preferred, graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. For NMH Critical Care & MJE Progressive Care: NIH Stroke Scale training or proof of training required in the first 6 months of hire. For MJE Progressive Care: Successful completion of Telemetry Cardiac Rhythm Course.
- Experience: NMH CT Scan: 1 to 3 years’ experience in direct patient care and proficient in intravenous (IV) start skills. NMH MRI: 1 to 3 years’ experience in direct patient care and proficient in intravenous (IV) start skills. NMH Nuclear Medicine: 5 years’ experience in nursing clinical settings and general experience in all areas of nursing practice. MJE Neurodiagnostics: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in cardiac/ICU. MWH PACU: Critical Care or Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience. NMH PACU: 1 to 2 years nursing experience. NMH Surgery GI Lab: 1 to 2 years experience. NMH Cath Lab: 1 year experience in Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Unit, Emergency Room, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Progressive Care unit. NMH Surgery Pre Op Services: 1 to 2 years nursing experience. Surgery OP Support HW: Minimum 2 years related experience in RN role. MFH Radiology Diagnostics: 3 years experience in direct patient care and proficient in IV start skills. Experience preferred: NMH Radiology Surgical: Experience in surgical environment. MPC Colon & Rectal Surgery ASC: Acute care or surgical nursing experience. MJE Cardiopulmonary Rehab: 1 year of telemetry experience. MFH Radiology Diagnostics: Pre/post operative and circulating experience.
- Licenses/Certifications: Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire. Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS). NMH Surgery Pre Op Services: ACLS required within 3 months of hire. Surgery OP Support HW: ACLS required within 6 months of hire. NMH Progressive Care: Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) or Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN). NMH Cardiovascular Surgery: Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) or Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN). NMH Progressive Care Unit 4: Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) or Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN). Surgery Outpatient HW: Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR). NMH Progressive Care: Gerontological Nursing (GERO.BC) and Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN). NMH Surgery GI Lab: Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse (CGRN). NMH PACU: Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN). NMH Cath Lab: Cardiovascular Registered Nurse (CV.BC) within 3 years of hire. NMH Critical Care: Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN).
Qualifications

Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills that are required for department and hospital information system.
