Job Summary
The Surgical Care Center of Michigan is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to support the Pre-Op, PACU, and Operating Room teams. This position offers flexible scheduling with no late nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
- Current RN License required
- Previous nursing experience in at least one of the following settings preferred: Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC), PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical or Telemetry floors
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Absorbs, prioritizes, plans, and implements patient care in an effective manner
- Supervises and directs patient care in an individual Operating Room
- Ensures adherence to accepted standards of practice and HIPAA regulations
- Communicates with patients, families, physicians, and other staff members
- Works independently and collaboratively with other departments
- Assists in training new staff when needed
- Supports the development of a healthy work environment
- Performs scrub duties as necessary
- Maintains count on sponges, needles, and instruments to ensure no loss of items according to policy
- Positions patient, prepares operative area, and adjusts table to proper position according to standard policies
- Opens all sterile packs and supplies according to aseptic technique
- Aids surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other personnel as needed
- Observes patient for changes in condition
- Reviews surgeon’s preference cards for desired medications and verifies same with surgeon
- Ensures all medications are administered and charted according to established policies and procedures
- Identifies and records patient’s response to medication when necessary
- Cares for specimens and cultures as directed by set policies and procedures
- Accompanies patient to PACU and gives report to Post-Op Nurse
- Aids in control and maintenance of supplies and equipment
- Records use of equipment and method directed
- Checks rooms, material, and equipment for proper care and handling
- Ensures clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety and aseptic techniques
- Aids in control of traffic and personnel to ensure proper control of infection and asepsis

Education and/or Experience
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
- One year of previous nursing experience in at least one of the following settings is preferred: Operating Room, surgical, ambulatory surgical center (ASC), Pre/Post-Op, PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical or Telemetry
Qualification
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) License required in the state where the worksite is located
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
Systems and Technology
- Knowledge of Amkai Office and Amkai Charts Database software
- Knowledge of patient monitoring and emergency equipment
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Knowledge of printer, copier, telephone, and fax
