Job Summary

The Surgical Care Center of Michigan is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to support the Pre-Op, PACU, and Operating Room teams. This position offers flexible scheduling with no late nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program
  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Current RN License required
  • Previous nursing experience in at least one of the following settings preferred: Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC), PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical or Telemetry floors

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Absorbs, prioritizes, plans, and implements patient care in an effective manner
  • Supervises and directs patient care in an individual Operating Room
  • Ensures adherence to accepted standards of practice and HIPAA regulations
  • Communicates with patients, families, physicians, and other staff members
  • Works independently and collaboratively with other departments
  • Assists in training new staff when needed
  • Supports the development of a healthy work environment
  • Performs scrub duties as necessary
  • Maintains count on sponges, needles, and instruments to ensure no loss of items according to policy
  • Positions patient, prepares operative area, and adjusts table to proper position according to standard policies
  • Opens all sterile packs and supplies according to aseptic technique
  • Aids surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other personnel as needed
  • Observes patient for changes in condition
  • Reviews surgeon’s preference cards for desired medications and verifies same with surgeon
  • Ensures all medications are administered and charted according to established policies and procedures
  • Identifies and records patient’s response to medication when necessary
  • Cares for specimens and cultures as directed by set policies and procedures
  • Accompanies patient to PACU and gives report to Post-Op Nurse
  • Aids in control and maintenance of supplies and equipment
  • Records use of equipment and method directed
  • Checks rooms, material, and equipment for proper care and handling
  • Ensures clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety and aseptic techniques
  • Aids in control of traffic and personnel to ensure proper control of infection and asepsis

Education and/or Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program
  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
  • One year of previous nursing experience in at least one of the following settings is preferred: Operating Room, surgical, ambulatory surgical center (ASC), Pre/Post-Op, PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical or Telemetry

Qualification

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) License required in the state where the worksite is located
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred

Systems and Technology

  • Knowledge of Amkai Office and Amkai Charts Database software
  • Knowledge of patient monitoring and emergency equipment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Knowledge of printer, copier, telephone, and fax

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking (75%)
  • Sitting (50%)
  • Standing (50%)
  • Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%)
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs
  • Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands
  • Visual and auditory acuity including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Occasional driving or climbing may also be necessary
