Registered Nurse, Perioperative Fellowship for Experienced Nurses
Program Overview
Accepting experienced RN applicants for the Perioperative Fellowship, a 6‑9 month specialty training program offered by Main Line Health to train experienced acute‑care nurses to become operating‑room nurses. The program is facilitated by MLH Operating Room Clinical Nurse Educators and supported by unit preceptors, coordinators, and managers. Acceptance requires a full‑time transfer to one of the Main Line Health operating‑room locations (Riddle Hospital, Paoli Hospital).
Clinical Expectations
As a registered nurse in the Perioperative Fellowship, you will learn both the circulating and scrub roles while rotating through specialties, attend in‑services and staff meetings, and complete didactic modules aligned with weekly goals. At the end of the course, participants must sit for the Periop 101 exam (educational materials such as a textbook may need to be purchased).

Schedule
- Full‑time, Monday – Friday: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
- Off‑shift rotations later in orientation to experience different shifts and call requirements

Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year acute‑care nursing experience in a hospital
- PA RN license or a multi‑state license verified in an approved state through the Nursing Licensure Compact
- Provider BLS certification (American Heart Association/American Red Cross) preferred
- Strong desire to work in the operating room
- Ability to receive constructive feedback
- Commitment to the orientation schedule
- Comfort with various smells and sights in the OR
- Sense of humor
Internal Main Line Health Employees: Must have at least one year of recent acute‑care nursing experience and be employed at Main Line Health for at least twelve months, per internal transfer policy.
External Candidates: Must have at least one year of recent acute‑care nursing experience.
