Registered Nurse - Perinatology - F/T Days
About the Role
The Registered Nurse functions as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This position focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, provides effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients, and directs and oversees the care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination. The role effectively coordinates patient care and unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.
Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing practices according to the most up-to-date evidence-based research, nursing policies, and standards of care to provide and ensure safe and excellent individualized patient care.
- Assessment:
- Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
- Perform age and disease-specific assessment/data collection independently in a systematic manner focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
- Recognize clinical and diagnostic status changes in patient status.
- Identify variables in patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and culturally specific learning differences.
- Planning:
- Develop a plan of care that prescribes strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Formulate age and disease-specific patient/family-centered goals/outcomes based on assessment data.
- Develop and coordinate a plan of care that is patient/family-focused, prioritized, and encompasses the continuum of care.
- Implementation:
- Communicate, coordinate, and implement the plan of care.
- Provide ongoing communication with patient/family, nursing colleagues, and other members of the health care team regarding patient's status, rendered care, and treatment plans.
- Implement age and disease-specific care in an organized and timely manner.
- Provide or coordinate patient/family education as needed and ensure understanding.
- Perform according to established protocols in clinical situations, including communicating with appropriate persons and documenting events.
- Provide nursing care and treatments that reflect the patients' needs, advocate appropriately, and demonstrate evidence-based nursing practice and compliance with standards.
- Perform continuous Point-of-Care electronic documentation of each individual patient's assessments, plan-of-care, interventions, and evaluation of rendered care.
- Administer medication utilizing the newest advancements in bar-scanning and documentation technologies to ensure the safest delivery of medications.
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary discharging of patients to ensure safe transitioning and continuum of care.
- Evaluation:
- Evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes.
- Utilize critical thinking skills based on nursing knowledge to achieve desired patient outcomes.
- Initiate interventions related to patient's change in condition and unexpected response to care.
- Identify ethical issues in the practice setting and bring them to the attention of other team members.
- Recognize and respond to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
- Acquire and maintain competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet facility accreditation or individual licensing requirements.
- Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
- Lift a minimum of 35 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 10 lbs., and stand a minimum of 6 hours a day.
- Adhere to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
- Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Requirements
- A minimum of an associate degree in Nursing or diploma of Nursing.
- BSN in progress and/or willing to acquire within three (3) years of hire (applies to team members hired on or after November 2019).
- For team members hired after 6/1/2021, BSN is required within five years of hire per union contract (CC456U, CC689U, CC891U). Advanced master's degree in nursing programs satisfy the BSN requirement (e.g., Associates to MSN).
- Six (6) or more months of relevant nursing experience OR active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.

Preferred Qualifications
- National Certification in area of specialty (preferred when eligible).
Licenses and Certifications
- Current and valid Registered Nurse license to work at the assigned HMH location by date of hire.
- BLS/CPR certification by American Heart Association required within 60 days of hire.
Pay
Minimum starting rate of $46.25 per hour. The posted rate of pay is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role and does not reflect the full value of the market-competitive total rewards package. The base compensation determined at the time of the offer may differ based on non-discriminatory factors, including labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding. Some roles may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, commissions, or shift differentials for evening, night, or weekend shifts.
