Registered Nurse - Pediatric Emergency Department - F/T Days

Hackensack Meridian Health seeks a Registered Nurse to function as a caregiver for a specific patient population, expanding knowledge and skills while providing effective direct care as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

A Registered Nurse delivers nursing practices according to evidence-based research, nursing policies, and standards of care to ensure safe and excellent individualized patient care. Key responsibilities include:

• Assessment
  • Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
  • Performs age- and disease-specific assessments focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
  • Recognizes clinical and diagnostic changes in patient status.
  • Identifies patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and cultural differences.
• Planning
  • Develops a plan of care with strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Formulates patient/family-centered goals and outcomes based on assessment data.
  • Coordinates a prioritized, patient/family-focused plan encompassing the continuum of care.
• Implementation
  • Communicates, coordinates, and implements the plan of care.
  • Provides ongoing communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team regarding status and care plans.
  • Implements age- and disease-specific care in an organized and timely manner.
  • Provides or coordinates patient/family education and ensures understanding.
  • Performs care according to established protocols, communicates appropriately, and documents events.
  • Delivers nursing care reflecting patient needs, advocates appropriately, and demonstrates evidence-based practice.
  • Performs continuous Point-of-Care electronic documentation of assessments, plans, interventions, and evaluations.
  • Administers medications using bar-scanning and documentation technologies for safe delivery.
  • Facilitates multi-disciplinary discharge planning for safe patient transitions and continuum of care.
• Evaluation
  • Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Initiates interventions for changes in patient condition and unexpected responses to care.
• Additional Responsibilities
  • Identifies and addresses ethical issues in practice.
  • Enhances patient satisfaction through responsive care.
  • Maintains competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet accreditation and licensing requirements.
  • Adheres to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
  • Lifts a minimum of 35 lbs., pushes/pulls a minimum of 10 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours per day.
  • Adheres to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of an Associate in Nursing or diploma in Nursing.
• BSN in progress and/or willingness to acquire within three years of hire (applies to team members hired on or after November 2019).
• For union positions (CC456U, CC689U, CC891U): BSN required within five years of hire; advanced master's degree in nursing satisfies this requirement.
• Six or more months of relevant nursing experience OR active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.
• Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing patient needs, and demonstrate accountability for improving patient and caregiver lives.
• Strong focus on teamwork, dedication to ongoing education, and passion for delivering high-quality care.

Preferred Qualifications

• National Certification in area of specialty (when eligible).

Licenses and Certifications

• Current and valid Registered Nurse license for the assigned HMH location (required by date of hire).
• BLS/CPR certification by the American Heart Association (required within 60 days of hire).

Pay

Minimum starting rate of $46.25 per hour. The posted rate is a reasonable good-faith estimate and may vary based on factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding. Eligible positions may include shift differentials for evening, night, or weekend shifts, as well as performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions.
