Job Requirements

The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is a world-class, Magnet-designated academic medical center. It includes the 789-bed downtown Baltimore campus and the 177-bed midtown campus. UMMC is home to the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center and The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, which is the highest-volume trauma center in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess Patient, Family and Care Giver needs
  • Provide compassionate and sensitive support and communication with patients, families, and health care teams regarding terminal illness and disease processes
  • In-depth understanding of palliative care principles, hospice philosophy, hospice eligibility and end of life care
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop treatment plans
  • Assist with symptom management and pain management strategies
  • Facilitate goals-of-care and advance care planning discussions
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
  • Support patients and families through complex medical decision-making
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record
  • Knowledgeable on palliative and hospice quality measures

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited Registered Nurse program
  • Registered Nurse licensed in the state of Maryland
  • Must have CHPN or obtain within 1 year of hire
  • Prior palliative care, hospice, oncology, ICU, or acute care experience preferred
  • Minimum 2 years registered nurse experience required; must have at least 2 years of hospice experience
  • Strong communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
