Registered Nurse - PACU - Weekend Plan Part Time Day

Part-time position: 24 hours bi-weekly on a day shift schedule, including 12-hour shifts every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Holidays are required when they fall within the scheduled weekend. Eligible for weekend premium pay.

About the Department

Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) features 18 recovery bays for phase-one general post-surgical patients, an isolation room, and an ECT minor procedure room.

About the Role

Provides professional nursing care following patient and family-centered care principles based on the nursing process and hospital clinical standards. Acts as a primary nurse for patients on the unit, coordinating care planning with other disciplines. May require specialized skills depending on unit assignment.

Responsibilities

• Provides and coordinates direct care in accordance with patient and family-centered care principles based on the nursing process and hospital clinical standards. Acts as a primary nurse for patients on the unit.
• Synthesizes patient data to develop outcome-driven plans.
• Safely and independently administers prescribed treatments, medications, and nursing interventions based on assessment and plan of care.
• Appropriately organizes and prioritizes time based on patient condition and expected workload.
• Identifies changes in patients’ status and acts accordingly.
• Activates resources to achieve outcomes for patients.
• Identifies and communicates individualized patient needs for safe handoffs during transitions of care.
• Collaborates with patient/family in care planning with all disciplines.
• Documents the patient response to interventions and progress toward outcomes, including variances, using flow sheets, progress notes, and/or electronic medical records.
• Identifies system and unit-based nursing sensitive indicators (e.g., falls, pressure ulcers).
• Identifies areas of professional growth and development in performance improvement efforts, recognizing the value of evidence-based research.
• Promotes a professional practice environment supporting patient safety and quality through interdisciplinary collaboration and Shared Decision Making (SDM) activities, including peer review.
• Delegates aspects of care to other nursing personnel to meet patient needs, assisting with organization and priority-setting for the patient care team.
• Promotes collaboration and cooperation among physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members, contributing to effective communication and conflict resolution.

Variations in duties may occur based on the assigned unit, including differences in required clinical skills. Unit-based skill lists outline expectations beyond the hospital-wide RN requirements. Current BLS certification is required for all nursing practice areas. Additional certifications may be required as follows:

• Emergency Care Center: ACLS, PALS
• Intensive Care Center & MSCC Lead: ACLS, PALS
• Labor & Delivery (L&D): ACLS, NRP (experienced L&D nurses obtain within 6 months; new L&D nurses obtain at 1 year of experience)
• NICU: NRP
• Pediatrics (PEDS): PALS
• PCC/PACU/ENDO: ACLS, PALS
• Procedural: ACLS

Requirements

• Minimum Education: Diploma Program or Associate’s Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
• Work Experience: 2 years of RN experience required; previous ICU, ED, or Perioperative (non-Med/Surg or OR) experience preferred.
• Licenses/Certifications: Active Registered Nurse license (or multi-state license) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
