About the Role

Rivers Health is seeking a full-time PACU Registered Nurse to deliver high-quality post-anesthesia care in a dynamic surgical services environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments, formulate nursing diagnoses, and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Revise and update care plans through continuous monitoring and evaluation of patient status.
  • Deliver safe, timely nursing care in accordance with unit-specific proficiencies, hospital policies, and established standards.
  • Document all care accurately and thoroughly in patient records.
  • Provide patient education and coordinate discharge planning in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Delegate patient care tasks to team members based on proficiency levels while retaining accountability.
  • Assist in the education, training, and staff development of professional and non-professional personnel; serve as a preceptor for new employees.
  • Participate in the hospital-wide Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process to enhance care quality and efficiency.
  • Maintain open communication with leadership regarding quality, cost-effective care, and risk management concerns.
  • Adhere to national specialty organization standards and ensure departmental compliance with environment of care, information management, patient care, and infection control standards.
  • Report structural or equipment damage, request maintenance, and follow up on repairs.
  • Practice positive customer relations techniques, respecting patient privacy and individual needs.
  • Maintain emergency drugs, equipment, and supplies; assist with unit cleanliness.
  • Address the emotional, spiritual, and physical needs of patients and families during the illness event.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment through open dialogue and shared concerns.
  • Attend unit meetings, educational offerings, and maintain a minimum of 24 contact hours annually.
  • Safeguard medications and narcotics; ensure safe administration with appropriate monitoring.
  • Complete all annual competencies for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of aseptic principles and maintain a sterile perioperative environment.
  • Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments to prevent loss according to policy.
  • Ensure availability of surgical supplies, monitor usage, and report needs to management.
  • Assist in supervising personnel and maintaining a safe physical environment.
  • Support a smooth surgical schedule by completing daily assignments, preparing case supplies, and maintaining stock.
  • Follow written protocols for call schedules, trading call, and requesting time off; maintain flexible hours to meet patient needs.
  • Ensure continuity of care through effective shift reporting and communication.
  • Participate in operating room staff development, including evaluating nursing care and hospital in-services.
  • Receive post-operative patients after regular hours if ICU capacity is full.
  • Comply with all corporate and departmental policies, procedures, and the personnel employee handbook.
  • Demonstrate excellence in customer service and foster a collaborative team atmosphere.
  • Engage in quality improvement activities, including serving on relevant teams.
  • Cross-train to other areas as assigned.
