About the role

The outpatient staff nurse at MercyOne Newton Medical Center is responsible for delivering direct care to pre and post-operative patients using the nursing process. They coordinate care with other healthcare professionals and collaborate with patients, families, and physicians.

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct care to pre and post-operative patients
• Use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
• Coordinate care with other healthcare disciplines
• Collaborate with patients, families, and physicians
• Adhere to standards of nursing care and hospital policies and procedures

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Minimum of two years of pre- and post-op surgical care experience
• Current license as a Registered Nurse from the State of Iowa

Licenses and Certifications

• BLS certification at health care provider level
• ACLS and PALS certification recommended

Qualifications

• Knowledgeable regarding the nursing process and its application
• Able to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions in English
• Skilled in the post-operative care of infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
• Maintain ongoing nursing continuing education units relevant to clinical assignments
• Function effectively during emergencies, crises, and stressful situations
