We are seeking an Access Nurse to join our Oncology team supporting the Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center, located in Jacksonville, Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures Oncology Access Nurse accurately utilizes medical acceptance criteria and disease specific algorithms to screen and schedule appointments for new patients in a way to ensure optimal efficiency in clinic operations.
  • Continues to maintain disease specific scheduling algorithms and pathways for patient access in coordination with disease specific navigators and teams.
  • Acts as direct contact for outside physicians and Baptist MD Anderson Business development team to expedite access into the cancer center.
  • Maintains and collaborates with new patient medical record specialists on medical record collection for new patients.
  • Provides review and direction of incomplete records and necessitates with team access to these records for complete patient visit.
  • Collaborates with nurse navigators for appropriate assessment and direction of patient and identification of supportive resources needed prior to first visit.
  • Collaborates with department physicians and managers to improve access to clinic appointments and multidisciplinary scheduling.
  • Works with clinical departments on updating scheduling algorithms and pathways.
  • Collaborates with ONPAC/ PAS Leadership to assist in improving outcomes, as well as, development of educational plans based on audits/reviews.
  • Provides ongoing education to Oncology New Patient Access Schedulers regarding scheduling algorithms.
  • Uses excellent oral communication and listening skills to communicate with patient access staff, patients, BMDA physicians and center staff regarding obstacles to access or medical records. Responds to voicemail and messages within one business day and answers phone calls in a timely manner (within 3 rings).
  • Completely and accurately documents actions.

Requirements

  • Access Nurse Experience: 3 - 5 Years of Nursing Experience
  • Education & Credential Requirements:
    • Registered Nurse (RN) - State Nursing Boards
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA
    • Associate of Science in Nursing
