At this time, Palos Hospital is not considering external ADN candidates for RN openings. Internal employee ADN candidates are still encouraged to apply. Ortho experience is required. A $10K sign-on bonus is available; employees and previous employees rehired within 1 year are not eligible.

About the Role

The Staff Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. The registered professional nurse assumes accountability and responsibility for the individualized, age-specific care of a patient along the continuum from admission to discharge. Decisions and actions on behalf of the patient/family are determined in an ethical manner.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and record patient status and identify patient care needs upon admission/point of care entry.
  • Organize assessment health data to ensure it is accurate, complete, and accessible.
  • Identify problems requiring immediate attention.
  • Validate diagnoses with patient/family and other healthcare team members.
  • Document diagnoses to facilitate determination of expected outcomes and plan of care.
  • Initiate and update Problem List at the time of admission.
  • Incorporate principles of age-specific care into the patient’s plan of care.
  • Document that the individualized plan of care has been discussed with and agreed upon by the patient/family.
  • Begin discharge planning at time of admission; consult with patient/family and healthcare team regarding discharge plan.
  • Identify patient teaching needs on admission and throughout hospital stay.
  • Arrange conferences with patient and/or family and other members of the health team when indicated to plan care.
  • Prioritize and organize evidence-based nursing interventions reflective of established standards of care.
  • Provide individualized, mutually agreeable, patient and family education founded on evidence-based practice and research guidelines.
  • Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
  • Review patient’s health data consistently to keep the Plan of Care updated.
  • Ensure revisions to the plan of care are systematic, ongoing, and driven by measurable, realistic goals.
  • Document the patient’s progression toward identified outcomes.
  • Identify unmet outcomes and provide direction for continuity of care.
  • Reassess nursing actions for effectiveness in achieving desired outcomes.
  • Communicate with patient/family and healthcare team members regarding patient care and nursing’s role.
  • Collaborate with patient/family and healthcare team members regarding the patient’s progress/plan of care.
  • Present relevant patient information at multidisciplinary meetings/conferences for peer feedback.
  • Make appropriate referrals as needed for continuity of care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
  • Strong analytic abilities.
  • Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) acceptable with commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of first day of employment in clinical nurse role.

Additional Requirements

  • For the Emergency Room: ACLS, PALS/ENPC & TNCC within one year of hire.
  • For the Pediatric Emergency Room: Pediatric Advanced Life Support and TNCC within one year of hire.
  • For Non-Invasive Cardiology: ACLS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the specific clinical area.
  • For the Emergency Room and Pediatric Emergency Room: Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS), Emergency Communications Registered Nurse, Certified Pediatric Nurse, or Certified Emergency Nurse.
