About the Role

Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care. Maintains professional accountability for provision of patient care for the assigned patients. Evaluates the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct care givers. Coordinates the patient care in conjunction with other departments. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with Mercy’s mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Mercy Hospital Southeast OR includes general surgery, 2 DaVinci Xis, urology, plastics, gyn, orthopedic, neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery. Periop 101 through AORN is offered for new registered nurses. Staff provides a comforting environment for patients undergoing surgical procedures. The team works alongside preop staff, anesthesia providers, surgeons, and recovery staff to safely provide care. Nurses train on equipment, proper patient positioning and prepping, and documentation of the patient record. There is opportunity to cross-train and/or advance to scrub or First Assist in cases.

Status: Full-Time - 40 hours/week
Shift: Days + Additional Call Hours

Qualifications

  • Experience: 1 year of RN and/or previous OR experience preferred but not required
  • Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN)
  • Licensure: Current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure; must meet all state board of nursing requirements
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or completion within 30 days of hire
    • Other unit-specific certifications including ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as required
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis
    • Prolonged standing and walking each shift
    • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
