About the role
The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering patient care through the nursing process in the preoperative, interoperative, and postoperative phases of the surgical patient.
Responsibilities
- Achieves comprehensive professional knowledge and skills in accordance with recognized nursing standards and department policies.
- Affirms patient physiological and psychosocial health status.
- Communicates pertinent information to relevant staff to maintain continuity of care.
- Documents patient information legibly in the patient record and signs the record appropriately.
- Identifies patient and family desires for care and establishes mutual goals.
- Formulates and implements nursing care plans tailored to individual patient needs.
- Responds to emergencies and operates within legal and ethical guidelines.
- Adjusts care plans based on patient data and demonstrates accountability.
- Completes proper preoperative processes, including communication and reporting.
- Ensures accurate surgical case counting and follows aseptic techniques.
- Adapts to efficient patient turnover times and demonstrates proper patient identification and surgical site marking.
- Anticipates surgeon needs during procedures and participates in professional nursing organizations.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Hold a current Registered Nurse license.
- Have current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and skills in nursing standards and department policies.
- Ability to assess and problem-solve.
- Practical experience in emergency response and patient care.
- Comprehensive understanding of legal and ethical guidelines applicable to nursing practice.
