About the role

The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering patient care through the nursing process in the preoperative, interoperative, and postoperative phases of the surgical patient.

Responsibilities

  • Achieves comprehensive professional knowledge and skills in accordance with recognized nursing standards and department policies.
  • Affirms patient physiological and psychosocial health status.
  • Communicates pertinent information to relevant staff to maintain continuity of care.
  • Documents patient information legibly in the patient record and signs the record appropriately.
  • Identifies patient and family desires for care and establishes mutual goals.
  • Formulates and implements nursing care plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Responds to emergencies and operates within legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Adjusts care plans based on patient data and demonstrates accountability.
  • Completes proper preoperative processes, including communication and reporting.
  • Ensures accurate surgical case counting and follows aseptic techniques.
  • Adapts to efficient patient turnover times and demonstrates proper patient identification and surgical site marking.
  • Anticipates surgeon needs during procedures and participates in professional nursing organizations.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Hold a current Registered Nurse license.
  • Have current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and skills in nursing standards and department policies.
  • Ability to assess and problem-solve.
  • Practical experience in emergency response and patient care.
  • Comprehensive understanding of legal and ethical guidelines applicable to nursing practice.
