About the Role

The Direct Patient Care Registered Nurse (DPC RN) is a licensed professional able to demonstrate proficiency and mastery of core competencies: assessment, technical skills, communication, critical thinking, interpersonal skills, planning, intervention, evaluation, flexibility, organizational skills, professional accountability, leadership, and service. Delivers patient-family centered care in a culturally competent manner utilizing and promoting evidence-based practice standards of quality, safety, and service.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient assessments and deliver evidence-based care.
• Demonstrate technical skills in a high-acuity Operating Room setting, including vascular experience.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
• Engage in critical thinking and problem-solving in fast-paced environments.
• Participate in call rotations and report within 30 minutes of call time.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred; required for RNs hired after specific dates per facility).
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), or other department-specific certifications as required.
• Minimum of 1 year of circulating and/or scrubbing experience in an acute Operating Room setting, with vascular experience required.
• Completion of a preceptor class within twelve months of being deemed competent for independent practice.

Qualifications

• RNs hired prior to 2/1/2012 (South), 10/1/2017 (Bethesda), 10/1/2023 (Boca), or 7/1/2018 (Fishermen’s) are not required to have a BSN to continue in their non-leadership role.
• RNs hired after these dates with an Associate’s degree will have 3 years from their date of hire to complete the BSN degree.
