Registered Nurse Oncology Bone Marrow Transplant

About the Role

This RN position requires 12 months of previous RN work experience. It is a Day/Night rotating schedule with 12-hour shifts, including every third weekend. The hiring manager prefers an RN with previous Oncology and Chemo administration experience.

3 East Oncology: Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) is a 26-bed unit specializing in the care of Oncology and Stem Cell Transplant patients, ranging from infancy to early adulthood. Common diagnoses treated on the unit include Leukemia, Lymphoma, Solid Organ Tumors, Neuro Oncology disease processes, and conditions that may result in Stem Cell Transplant.

The Clinical Nurse practices at the level of an advanced beginner to expert practitioner of professional nursing, guided by the CHOP Nursing Professional Practice Model. The nurse demonstrates competence in caring for patients and families and progresses to caring for those with the most complex problems/highest acuity in the designated clinical area. Provides age- and developmentally-appropriate care through RN leadership within the framework of family-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Follows the nursing process to deliver safe, compassionate, and culturally effective care.
• Gathers and synthesizes assessment data to determine the patient/family plan of care, shares pertinent data with the care team, and delegates tasks.
• Recognizes clinical changes indicative of patient deterioration and utilizes the CAT team when appropriate.
• Collaborates with the patient, family, and multidisciplinary team to coordinate all facets of patient care.
• Develops, implements, and revises the patient’s plan of care on admission and during hospitalization, focusing on outcomes and including goals and required interventions in partnership with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary care team.
• Coordinates care across the continuum and utilizes case management resources.
• Follows evidence-based practice bundles and nursing standards/procedures to eliminate preventable harm and promote excellent patient outcomes.
• Recognizes and addresses ethical dilemmas and moral distress, seeking resources as needed.
• Demonstrates competence in teaching patients/families, progressing to expert educator status.
• Evaluates and documents care provided on each assigned shift.
• Adopts and implements clinical practice changes rapidly into own practice.
• Documents the evaluation of nursing interventions and outcomes using hospital standards, policies, and procedures.
• Follows safe hand-off practices as defined in patient care standards and procedures.
• Utilizes and exemplifies safety behaviors for error prevention, identifying potential safety concerns and communicating them to unit leadership.
• Uses effective verbal and nonverbal communication techniques and good listening skills to empathically communicate with patients, families, and colleagues.
• Encourages patient/family self-advocacy.
• Demonstrates effective teamwork as a member of the interdisciplinary care team, fostering a culture of respect.
• Actively participates in interdisciplinary patient care rounds and/or meetings, making recommendations to the plan of care.

Requirements

• At least one (1) year of RN experience.
• Prior experience in pediatrics or area of specialty (preferred).
• Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey (required upon hire).
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification (required upon hire).

Qualifications

• Technical Diploma in Nursing (required).
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred).

Pay

Salary Range: $48.30 - $58.15 per hour (full-time). Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs; part-time pay will be adjusted accordingly.
