About the role

Provide direct nursing care, including the administration of chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. Implements and monitors patient care plans. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate. Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. Document and carry out physician and nursing orders. Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team. Assess patients for expected side effects and has knowledge of how to handle them. Observe for allergic or hypersensitivity reactions to the drugs and takes appropriate action. Practice safe handling of cytotoxic agents, including any spills. Draw blood samples and is an expert in the use of Triple lumen catheters, PortaCath, Hickman, Groshong, and PICC lines, and several types of programmable pumps. Troubleshoots problems with these technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Implements and monitors patient care plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities.
  • Coordinate care among various healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Assess and monitor patient condition and report changes to healthcare providers.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and monitor patient response to treatment.
  • Manage and troubleshoot equipment used in patient care.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement discharge plans.
  • Monitor and manage potential side effects of medications and treatments.
  • Prepare and administer medications according to prescribed dosages and schedules.
  • Document and communicate patient care activities to healthcare providers.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.

Requirements

  • Licensure / Certification / Registration: Required Credential(s) BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Certification specializing in Chemotherapy credentialed from the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Indiana Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR Required professional licensure at time of hire.

Qualifications

  • Experience in oncology nursing preferred.
  • Knowledge of chemotherapy and immunotherapy administration.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Basic computer skills for electronic health records and patient management systems.

Skills

  • Proficiency in administering chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments.
  • Knowledge of patient monitoring and condition assessment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain medical equipment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Full time, 12 hour shifts, Night shift.
