Summary/Objective

The Nursing Practice Specialist provides education and evaluation to nursing and patient care staff and facilitates evidenced-based research within a specialized area of nursing. The Nursing Practice Specialist collaborates with medical practitioners to incorporate nursing processes into the plan of care for a specialized group of patients. The Nursing Practice Specialist performs direct specialty nursing services to patients as required, ensuring adherence to Scope of practice, regulatory standards and all related policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Assess, design, coordinate, implement and evaluate educational programs based on the assessment and learning needs of the staff.
  • Know the rationale for and the effects of medications and treatments and shall correctly administer the same.
  • Implement measures to promote a safe environment for patients and others.
  • Maintains personal and staff awareness of current developments, evidence-based practice, and trends in nursing research with a focus on the specific patient population in which they are employed.
  • Understand, articulate, and ensure compliance with State Nurse Practice Act, Texas Department of Health regulations, regulatory agency standards, and policies of the organization.
  • Acts as a clinical resource for bedside nursing personnel using evidence-based standards and professional guidelines.
  • Support the implementation and evaluation of staff education, orientation programs and assist in monitoring the care delivered.
  • Maintain required documentation of patient care and unit activities in accordance with standards and ensures quality of care is maintained through Performance Improvement activities.

Required Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5 years of bedside nursing experience, critical care experience a plus

Required License/Certifications

  • Current RN License in the state of Texas
