Registered Nurse - North 2 Full Time Night

About the role

At Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, Registered Nurses diagnose and treat responses to actual or potential health problems using nursing methods such as case finding, health teaching, and counseling. They provide care that supports and restores health and well-being while adhering to a medical regimen.

Responsibilities

• Assess the patient’s condition and nursing needs; coordinate nursing care activities with other health disciplines to integrate the nursing regimen with the treatment plan.
• Develop a written individualized care plan including teaching needs and discharge planning.
• Administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are required.
• Administer medication and practice infection control.
• Participate in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
• Assume responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing care to all assigned patients.
• Communicate changes in patient’s condition and questions regarding patient care to Charge RN/Clinician.
• Develop and maintain a current written plan of care for assigned patients.
• Set priorities to meet the patient’s needs and establish patient goals and priorities with the patient and/or family.
• Provide documented evidence in the medical record of patient/family teaching and their responses and understanding.
• Ensure patient education and instructions are consistent with those of the physician or designee.
• Communicate and work effectively with other staff and departments.
• Participate in unit or hospital-based quality assurance activities or committees to advance the nursing profession at SBSH.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Possession of or eligibility for a license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• ACLS certification from the American Heart Association within 3 months of hire; New Grads must obtain ACLS within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
• Under New York State Education Law 6905, all RNs licensed on or after June 18, 2020, must obtain a BSN within 10 years of initial licensure to maintain practice eligibility in New York.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand, walk, and move quickly for extended periods, especially during emergencies.
• Ability to assist with patient transfers, repositioning, and physical interventions using appropriate safety techniques and equipment.
• Lifting and/or transferring patients, including those who may be physically aggressive or uncooperative.
• Handling equipment and supplies needed for emergency care.
• Reacting quickly to situations involving physical restraint, patient agitation, or aggression.
• Providing physical support in restraining or de-escalating patients if necessary.
• Ability to use medical instruments, perform assessments, administer medications, and manage equipment with precision.
• Performing tasks such as documenting patient information, administering injections, or manipulating medical equipment.
• Ability to maintain physical and mental alertness during long shifts, including nights and weekends.
• Capacity to manage high-stress situations with clear decision-making and physical capacity.
• Ability to manage emotional and physical challenges when caring for agitated or mentally distressed patients.
• Must be able to respond quickly and take rapid action, including using physical restraint procedures to stabilize a patient in crisis.

Anticipated Pay Range

$54.6172 – $65.5480 per hour
