Registered Nurse - Full Time Night

About the Role

Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care provided, including restorative care for residents, in a manner reflective of the ESCC Core Values. As the direct care provider of health services, share appropriate information with all other health services staff to assist each resident in achieving their maximum level of development.

Responsibilities

• Promote Elizabeth Seton Children’s Mission and Core Values through daily work.
• Utilize the nursing process to assess residents, plan interventions, and evaluate outcomes.
• Perform treatments and special care, such as tracheotomy care, central venous lines, oxygen administration, cast care, and dressing changes.
• Administer medication and immunizations as ordered.
• Confer with physicians or other health team members regarding patient care management.
• Assist physicians in performing physical examinations and treatments.
• Evaluate the effects of prescribed treatments, including orthotics, and report findings to appropriate disciplines.
• Observe, report, and record abnormal vital signs, seizure activity, and other clinically significant data.
• Implement the resident’s Interdisciplinary Care Plan, including positioning, play, feeding techniques, and behavior modification plans.
• Participate in completing MDS and revise care plans as resident conditions change.
• Assume the role of nurse in charge of a unit for the assigned shift.
• Educate residents and families regarding treatment plans.
• Document interventions and teaching outcomes accurately and timely.
• Maintain a safe therapeutic resident care environment.
• Direct and supervise CNAs, unit clerks, LPNs, and other RNs when in charge.
• Establish effective working relations with staff, residents, and family members.
• Ensure compliance with Center and Department of Nursing policies and procedures.
• Review medication administration records for completeness at the end of the shift.
• Give and receive nursing reports and follow through on special instructions.
• When in charge, make periodic checks to ensure proper administration of treatments and evaluate residents' physical and emotional status.
• Participate in the orientation of new staff, residents, and families to the unit.
• Carry out restorative and rehabilitative programs, including teaching residents self-care skills as appropriate.
• Ensure facility policy on the use of restraints is followed, with timely and accurate documentation.
• Maintain a clean and clutter-free unit, ensuring the supply room door is locked.
• Follow infection control standards and ensure assigned personnel do the same.
• Stay updated on new nursing policies and procedures.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including nurses' notes and care plans.
• Carry out end-of-shift responsibilities, such as ensuring supplies are available for the next shift and the unit is clean and tidy.
• Perform other related duties as necessary or directed by supervisors.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited RN program.
• New York State RN License and Registration Certificate required.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in nursing preferred.
• Current BCLS certification.
• One (1) year of clinical experience in a pediatric and/or adolescent chronic/rehabilitative care facility preferred.

Employee Requirements

• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
• Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and other regulatory agencies.
• Must meet general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination.
• Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds.
• Must be able to perform tasks involving exposure to residents' blood/body fluids.
• Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents if necessary.

Working Conditions

• Work in a well-lighted and ventilated area.
• Subject to frequent interruptions.
• May be asked to work beyond normal working hours or in other positions temporarily when necessary.

Pay

$117,204.63/year to $141,254.63/year.
