  • Three 12-hour shifts: 7p-7:30a with alternating weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Completes patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated, documenting details of the patient's physical, mental, and emotional status.
  • Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care provided, including transfer and discharge documentation as needed.
  • Fulfills the five Rights of Medication Administration, verbalizing medications to patients/family/significant others, assessing for allergies, parameters, and potential side effects, and documenting responses according to hospital policy.
  • Coordinates and supervises nursing care, delegating tasks while maintaining accountability for the care given.
  • Assesses patients for safety risks, adhering to hospital policies and procedures, and initiating interventions as necessary.
  • Conducts bedside shift report and rounds with peers, ensuring patient hand-offs are appropriate.
  • Assesses learning needs of patients/family/significant others and provides appropriate instruction using various teaching methods, documenting the patient's response to teaching.
  • Carefully attends to specific patient populations, regardless of their location.
  • Delivers patient-centered care, embracing cultural diversity and respecting the dignity of all individuals.
  • Maintains open lines of communication, actively listening to patients and their families.
  • Maintains accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Works to promote a culture of learning and growth, seeking out experiences and formal/independent learning activities to enhance clinical and professional skills and knowledge.
  • Mentors others to succeed.

Qualifications

  • Graduated from an accredited school of nursing with an Associates Level Degree (required) or Bachelors Degree in Nursing (preferred).
  • Current and unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse License (CT Hospitals).
  • American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Certification (preferred, based on specialty hours of work requirement).
