About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides safe, patient-centered care utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) within the Medical-Surgical unit. Responsible for direct patient care, care coordination, and clinical assessment in an acute care environment. We welcome new graduate RNs and offer a structured residency program, hands-on training, and dedicated preceptor support to build confidence and clinical skills.

Central Maine Healthcare (CMH), a member of Prime Healthcare Foundation, is an integrated healthcare delivery system serving approximately 400,000 residents across central, western, and midcoast Maine through a network of more than 40 primary and specialty care locations. The system includes Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC) in Lewiston, a 250-bed, not-for-profit regional referral hospital that is home to the region's only Cancer Care Center, an orthopedic ambulatory surgery center, and the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute. CMMC also serves as the central Maine base for LifeFlight of Maine, the state's only medical helicopter service. CMH also includes Bridgton Hospital and Rumford Hospital, two 25-bed critical access hospitals that provide essential care to Maine's rural communities. As part of its commitment to healthcare education and workforce development, CMH is home to the Maine College of Health Professions, Maine's first nursing and medical imaging school.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct patient care for assigned Medical-Surgical patients
  • Perform ongoing assessments and monitor patient condition and response to treatment
  • Communicate changes in condition, diagnostic results, and symptomatology to physicians
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, and treatments per orders
  • Provide patient and family education and guide nursing support staff
  • Respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient status
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation
  • Ensure compliance with patient safety, HIPAA, and regulatory standards

Requirements

  • Current and valid state RN License
  • Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current
  • Current ACLS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current
  • Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC 30 days upon hire and maintain current
  • Basic Arrythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire
  • Minimum of one year experience as a staff nurse RN in an acute care hospital setting; E.R. setting preferred
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Facility Specific Requirements

  • In Paramedic Base Station ED: MICN within 12 months of hire and maintain current
  • EDAP certified facilities: Completion of emergency pediatric course 1 and 2 within 6 months of hire
  • Non-OB facilities: NRP certificate 90 days upon hire and maintain current
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNNC) within 12 months of hire required

Schedule

Full time, 12-hour shifts from 0700-1900.
