Registered Nurse- Med Surg/ Tele 3S- Part Time, Days

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The facility features the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. It operates a Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center and a Primary Stroke Center designated by the New York State Department of Health, with 24/7 neurologist availability. Additional outpatient sites include a wound care center, hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

About the role

The successful candidate will execute professional nursing care in accordance with physician treatment plans to ensure patient comfort and well-being. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, planning and implementing treatment, observing progress, and documenting observations. The role involves collaborating with an interdisciplinary health team, directing nursing care delivery, and participating in the orientation of new employees.

Responsibilities

• Collects patient health data by involving the patient, family, and other health care providers.
• Performs initial and ongoing assessments based on patient presentation and department policy.
• Records relevant data on the nursing component of the Interdisciplinary Admission Assessment.
• Demonstrates awareness of special needs for diverse age groups, cultures, and patients with disabilities.
• Incorporates discharge planning into the admission process.
• Analyzes assessment data to determine problem identification and expected outcomes.
• Develops and communicates a plan of care tailored to the patient’s needs, collaborating with the patient, family, and healthcare providers.
• Integrates cultural, ethnic, and spiritual aspects into the care plan.
• Incorporates teaching and learning principles based on identified needs and developmental level.
• Assists in securing services to address health-related needs.
• Implements the plan of care, adapts nursing procedures, and provides patient education.
• Recognizes and acts on patient safety hazards.
• Collaborates with team members to implement interventions and delegates tasks according to state regulations.
• Demonstrates knowledge of drug administration, including incompatibilities, contraindications, and adverse effects.
• Evaluates patient progress and revises the plan of care as needed.
• Documents patient responses and updates to the care plan.
• Communicates with patients, families, and healthcare providers during the evaluation process.
• Provides care that aligns with ethical beliefs and respects patient rights.

Requirements

• Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
• BLS certification and de-escalation training.
• ACLS certification (required for ICU, Float pool, Emergency Dept).
• TCAR Certification (required for SICU, PACU).
• For Emergency Dept: PALS and TNCC (within first year).
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS must be through AHA.
• Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and families, recognizing cultural diversity.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Analytical ability to assess and develop solutions for clinical situations or unit problems.
• Proficiency in the clinical area and age group served.
• Physical ability to frequently lift/carry over 75 lbs, push/pull over 100 lbs, bend, squat, kneel, climb steps/ladder, and reach above shoulders.

Qualifications

• BSN preferred.
• For ASU RN: 1 year of Critical Care experience preferred.
• PALS certification preferred.
• Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia (e.g., CAPA) preferred.
• 1 year of nursing experience in preoperative, perioperative, or post-anesthesia care preferred.
• Experience in patient assessment, education, and care planning for pre- and post-operative patients preferred.
• Prior experience in discharge planning and coordination of perioperative patients preferred.
• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems preferred.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $57.11 - $73.91 per hour. Actual salaries depend on factors such as experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
