About the Role

The employee acts as second line clinical supervisor of a correctional health care complex which includes ambulatory care, urgent emergent services, receptions center, inpatient unit, acute mental health, segregation, boot camp, dialysis and all care in between. Works 100% within the secure perimeter of a multi-security correctional facility. This is a test designated position, subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the review and development of nursing policies and procedures.
  • Schedule and approve leave requests.
  • Complete service ratings and employee counseling.
  • Participate in the grievance process, hiring, orientation, and disciplinary process of staff.
  • Assure the quality of patient care through appropriate intra-shift supervision and inter-shift communication.
  • Provide direct patient care.
  • Oversee and thoroughly orient new employees.

Requirements

  • Completion of a degree in nursing or nursing school educational program accepted for registered nurse licensure by the Michigan Board of Nursing.
  • Two years of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse P11 or one year equivalent to a Registered Nurse 12 or a Registered Nurse Manager 12.
  • Possession of a Michigan registered nurse license in good standing.
  • Must meet ethical standards and report any possible conflict of interest.
  • New hires or returning employees (after more than two years) must complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) of either 40 or 80 hours based on their level of offender contact and job classification, plus additional online training.

Alternate Education and Experience

  • Possession of a master's degree in nursing may substitute for one year of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse P11.
  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in nursing may substitute for six months of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse P11.
