The RN staff nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Las Palmas Medical Center and the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. In collaboration with the patient, the patient’s family, and other members of the health care team, the clinical RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and coordinates treatment plans and the plan of care.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and coordinate treatment plans and the plan of care in collaboration with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal, problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Lead and function as part of a team to ensure quality care.
- Adhere to the AIDET philosophy for excellent customer service.
- Utilize computer systems for charting and order entry.
- Complete required education and competency check-offs, including breastfeeding education and fetal monitoring training.
Requirements
- Texas or Compact State Nursing License – RN (required).
- BCLS Certification (required).
- NRP Certification (required).
- ACLS Certification (within 6 months of hire).
- Intermediate Fetal Monitoring through AWHONN (within 6 months of completing floor orientation).
- Graduate from an Accredited Associate Degree or Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Program.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work within a team and prioritize needs continuously.
- Introductory Fetal Monitoring course (within 30 days of starting floor orientation).
- 20 hours of Breastfeeding Education, including 5 hours under direct observation of a Lactation Consultant (within 6 months of hire).
- Annual competency check-off after completing 20 education hours.
- Computer literacy for charting and order entry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Nursing Program.
- Perinatal and neonatal healthcare experience.
- S.T.A.B.L.E. course certification (within 6 months of hire).
- Lactation Educator or Consultant certification.
- AWHONN membership.
