About the role

The Charge Nurse under the supervision of the Nurse Manager provides professional nursing care using the nursing process. They assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. This role also involves serving as a patient advocate and ensuring the safety and comfort of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Completes daily assignment sheets and updates patient assignments on the white board.
  • Makes rounds on patients, monitors their care activities, and ensures staff members follow policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshoots problems on the unit and reports concerns or disciplinary issues to management.
  • Delivers appropriate care to patients, coordinates care with a multidisciplinary team, and administers clinical decisions.
  • Meets treatment goals, develops/implements discharge/transfer plans, and evaluates patient care.
  • Audits patient care and infection control, including hand hygiene and central line audits.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and ensures a safe work environment.
  • Participates in survey readiness activities and ensures compliance with regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing.
  • Three years of nursing experience preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within 90 days of employment.
