Registered Nurse - Intermediate Intensive Care Nursery (Noc)

About the Role

The registered nurse (RN) is responsible and accountable for planning, directing, assessing, and providing nursing care according to the policies and procedures of the hospital and department. Key dimensions include quality of care, professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, public/customer relations, and broad nursing knowledge. The RN will orient new staff, precept students, and assume relief charge nurse duties as assigned.

The RN in the Intermediate Intensive Care Nursery (IICN) will provide care for well-baby, nursery, IICN level 1 and 2 patients, attend deliveries, initiate resuscitation as needed, and stabilize infants for transfer to higher levels of care. The RN may also float to the Family Birth Center (FBC) to provide postpartum maternal and infant care. As a BABY FRIENDLY™ hospital designated by the World Health Organization and UNICEF, all staff must adhere to the "10 Steps" of the BABY FRIENDLY™ initiative.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, assess, and provide nursing care in accordance with hospital and department policies.
• Evaluate, plan, and implement appropriate nursing care for patients.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments; assist physicians during procedures.
• Monitor and record patient condition, notifying physicians when appropriate.
• Provide well-baby, nursery, and IICN level 1 and 2 care; attend deliveries and initiate resuscitation as needed.
• Stabilize infants for transfer to tertiary levels of care.
• Float to the Family Birth Center (FBC) to provide postpartum maternal and infant care.
• Orient new staff, precept students, and assume relief charge nurse duties.
• Adhere to the BABY FRIENDLY™ initiative’s "10 Steps."

Requirements

• At least 2 years of acute care hospital experience in a level II or higher nursery or successful completion of a NICU training program.
• Knowledge of well newborn care, newborn delivery admission, resuscitation, and maternal postpartum care (training may be provided).
• Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment.
• Must complete and pass all annual competencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
• State of California RN license required.
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS and NRP Advanced Provider required.
• S.T.A.B.L.E. certification required for hires after April 1, 2025; current staff must complete by September 1, 2026.
• PALS and ENPC preferred.

Schedule

0.9 FTE, Night shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM).

Pay

Pay range: $72.83 to $97.40 per hour, based on years of applicable experience.

• Evening shift differential: $5.50 per hour.
• Night shift differential: $8.00 per hour.
