Registered Nurse – Intensive Care - ICU - Travel - (ICU RN)

Unit Information

• Beds: 29
• Average patients/day: 29
• Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years in Adult ICU
• First-time travelers: Must have completed at least (1) 13-week assignment

Patient Types & Common Diagnoses

• Neuro ICU including but not limited to ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, subarachnoid hemorrhage, traumatic brain injuries, seizures/status epilepticus, spinal cord injuries, EVD drains/ICP monitoring, post op Crani’s (straight from OR), IR (straight from procedure), TNK patients – 50% of administrations will be done on the unit vs. ED
• Some off-service Trauma or Medical ICU patients

Patient Ratios

• RN: 1:2; sometimes will be tripled if patients have downgrade orders
• CNA: not consistently staffed on this unit

Required Certifications

• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Required Skills

• Epic experience is required
• Management of external ventricular drains (EVD), intracranial pressure monitoring, Ventilator Management, Management of vasoactive drips, tracheostomy care, central line maintenance, post monitor TNK and IR
• CRRT is sometimes seen, and traveler could take this if competent

• Stroke Response Nurse

• Charge nurse: free floating
• Phlebotomy: Nurse Draw
• RT 24/7: Yes
• Intensivist, 24/7: Yes, NP or PA is in-house for any emergency as part of the Neurocritical Care Team
• Pharmacist: shared pharmacy team after 2300
• PT/OT/ST: 7 days a week
• Case Management/Social Work

Technology & Equipment

• EMR: Epic - Required
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Med dispensing: Omnicell
• Monitors: Philips
• Unit specific equipment: Artic Sun (Targeted Temperature Management) - occasionally, Vigilance Monitor, CRRT, ICP Monitoring/EVD drains

Floating

• Adult Critical care units, as needed (MICU, STICU, Dixon Heart, CTICU)
• PCU 1:3 max ratio

Orientation

• NEO
• 2 days departmental – dependent on skillset and comfort level

Scheduling

• Available Shifts: 12 D
• Weekend rotation: every other (Fri/Sat/Sun)
• On call: No call
• Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
• RTO: Manager approval
• Shift times: 12N
• Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse, ICU
• SSN Required
• DOB Required
• References: 1 Reference in the last 12 months
• 12N shift skills checklist within 12 mos
• ICU reference within 12 mos
• 1 previous travel assignment
