About the role
The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing for patients following established standards and practices. Assists physicians and staff with the daily coordination of patient care and patient access. Coordinates patient flow, schedules appointments, procedures, tests and referrals. May serve as preceptor for clinical staff.
Responsibilities
- Provides patient psychosocial/physiologic assessments that integrate changing data at all times.
- Formulates a plan of care based on trends of similar patients, including patient education and discharge planning.
- Tailors and prioritizes caring practice to individual needs, including cultural/ethical/spiritual needs at all times.
- Participates in the planning of routine transitional health care needs (i.e. treatment options, patient placement options, end of life options).
- Adapts planned educational programs and information to individual patients and families by modifying teaching strategies or content and integrates this education during the delivery of patient care.
- Ensures efficiency in the delivery of care by determining immediate priorities and offering solutions for problems.
- Advocates for patient rights and identifies potential conflicts, seeking counsel for resolution of conflict.
- Identifies variances from expected outcomes and makes revisions in the plan of care based on patient outcomes.
- Accurately documents all patient care activities according to documentation standards; assists in the documentation process as needed.
- Delegates patient care activities to other health care team members and participates in making and revising staff assignments to achieve maximum productivity.
- Maintains knowledge regarding unit initiatives and incorporates the outcomes of team/committee work into practice.
- Participates in unit teams, work groups, and/or committees as requested, anticipating needs and assisting others.
- Serves as a clinical resource to health care team members, displaying leadership behaviors, providing direction and guidance to others regarding practice as needed.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives by utilizing standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery.
- Incorporates evidence-based practice and research findings into nursing practice to enhance outcomes.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- License required by state.
- Proficient in the English language, verbal and written communication skills, and computer skills.
- Current Louisiana State license as RN and BLS certification.
