About the Role

Join UMMC, a Magnet®-designated, nationally recognized academic medical center within the University of Maryland Medical System. This role offers the opportunity to work in a vibrant downtown Baltimore location near the Inner Harbor and Camden Yards, contributing to patient care and advancing the science of nursing.

Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for assessing patients, developing, evaluating, and modifying plans of care. You will provide care through therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, and collaboration with the healthcare team, performing complex patient-care procedures specific to your area of expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Provides care for unit-specific and/or hospital-based patient populations, practicing independently with solid clinical skills and integrating evidence into practice.
  • Accountable to patients, families, peers, and the nurse manager for care processes, outcomes, and advancement of group practice.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to plan and coordinate patient/family-centered care.
  • Serves as a clinical resource and participates in implementation efforts addressing Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI).
  • Complies with regulatory standards and supports unit operations to ensure safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered care.
  • Follows AACN guidelines for a Healthy Work Environment, focusing on communication, collaboration, decision-making, and teamwork.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including serving as a primary coordinating nurse when required.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland or eligibility to practice under Compact state agreements.
  • Associate’s degree required; BSN preferred.
  • One (1) year of previous RN experience required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required upon hire.
  • Must meet all unit-specific certification requirements (e.g., PALS, ACLS, NRP).

  • Solid knowledge and clinical skills, with a focus on advancing professional development.
  • Highly effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to function as an effective multidisciplinary team member and support team-building efforts.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems to manage patient information.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patient population(s) served, including age-specific needs (Infant through Older Adult).
  • Versatility and willingness to work within the PRN RN Standardized Program as assigned.
