Registered Nurse II - Neurology Clinic

MUSC Rutledge Tower Outpatient Neurology Clinic provides care for a variety of neurological disorders, including Epilepsy, Memory Disorders, Movement Disorders, Neuromuscular conditions, and Stroke. The clinical staff assist with triaging and preparing patients for appointments, performing procedures such as skin biopsies and Botox injections, and coordinating patient care and treatment plans through telephone calls and messages. The team collaborates closely to meet patients' healthcare needs while encouraging staff to work to their highest potential.

About the Role

This position involves providing individualized, goal-directed nursing care to patients and families using principles of the nursing process. The role requires interaction with other healthcare team members to achieve desired outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing nursing care to patients with neurological disorders.
• Prepare patients for appointments and assist with procedures such as skin biopsies and Botox injections.
• Coordinate patient care and treatment plans through telephone calls and messages.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure patient needs are met.
• Deliver safe and effective care at the advanced beginner (RN I) or competent level (RN II).

Requirements

• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
• For RN II: A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred (required for new hires after July 1, 2013 to enroll in a BSN program within two years and complete it within four years; see policy A141).
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
• Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking vitals, administering injections, or conducting exams.
• Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment.
• Visual acuity and color perception for reading medical charts and monitors.
• Auditory ability to communicate effectively and perceive alarms or instructions.
• Stamina to handle long shifts and stressful situations.
• Mobility to navigate clinical environments and comply with infection control protocols.
