Registered Nurse II, Medical Oncology, Nights

UMMC is the flagship academic medical center at the heart of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) located in downtown Baltimore. The Medical Oncology inpatient unit is a 32-bed acute unit providing care to adult patients with hematologic malignancies (mostly acute leukemia) and solid tumors, many on clinical trials and/or receiving novel therapies.

About the role

As a Registered Nurse on the Medical Oncology unit, you will administer advanced cancer-fighting therapies, earn an Oncology Nursing Society Chemo/Biotherapy certificate, administer blood products, monitor and treat patients for disease or treatment-related toxicities, and provide supportive/palliative care to a challenging and vulnerable patient population.

• Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to population-specific and age-specific needs.
• Ensure patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department, or unit patient safety initiatives.
• Take action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
• Report adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
• Identify possible risks in processes, procedures, devices, and communicate the same to those in charge.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited nursing education program approved by the Board of Nursing.
• BSN preferred.
• Currently licensed as an RN in the state of Maryland or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements.
• BLS certification (CPR certification required).
• At least 1 year of nursing experience; Oncology experience preferred.
• Up-to-date status on all mandatory training and classes.
• Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education every two years.
• Member in a professional organization is preferred.
• Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting.
