About the role
The Riverside University Health System's (RUHS) Medical Center is recruiting for an experienced Registered Nurse for the Nurse Support Team - BERT Division. This is a per diem position. A Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) Registered Nurse (RN) plays a critical role in providing specialized care for individuals experiencing behavioral or mental health crises. The BERT team seeks a skilled and compassionate RN to provide rapid assessments, crisis intervention, and patient-centered care for individuals experiencing behavioral or mental health emergencies throughout the hospital.
The most competitive candidates will have at least 3 years of Registered Nurse experience in an acute care hospital setting, with experience in a Psychiatric or Emergency Department setting. Candidates should possess strong clinical judgement, effective communication skills, and a dedication to delivering safe, patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and de-escalate acute psychiatric situations.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and administer and monitor psychiatric medications.
- Ensure accurate documentation of patient care and progress.
- Assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with physician instructions.
- Assist physicians in administering treatments, performing medical examinations, diagnostic tests, and surgical operations.
- Administer prescribed treatment and medications, chart patient treatment, and report significant changes in condition.
- Counsel and advise patients, families, and significant others regarding medical problems and proper healthcare methods.
- Prepare and maintain concise and complete records and reports; instruct patients in carrying out physician's orders.
- Provide orientation and training to new staff, residents, medical students, and nursing students.
- Participate in quality assurance reviews; act as a team leader or relief charge nurse.
- Assign and monitor the work of subordinate nursing personnel; participate in committee activities; identify staff training needs.
- Triage patients by reviewing admission charts and merging patients into appropriate patient assignment or clinic flow.
- Testify in court regarding client's mental and physical condition.
- Coordinate and monitor patients through the hospitalization process utilizing physicians, primary care nurses, and third-party payors.
- Review post-hospital care plans with patients/families and follow care plans through patient discharge.
Requirements
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- CPI certification within 6 months of hire.
- 5150 Certification within 6 months of hire.
- Current valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required.
Qualifications
Registered Nurse II - MC/CHC - Per Diem
- Education: Successful completion of the education required to obtain a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. A bachelor's degree in nursing or a health-related field may be required for some positions.
- Experience: Equivalent to one year of full-time experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital, clinic outpatient setting, or healthcare agency program. Experience gained as an Interim Permit Nurse may be credited.
Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC - Per Diem
- Education: Successful completion of the education required to obtain a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. A bachelor's degree in nursing or a health-related field may be required for some positions.
- Experience: Equivalent to three years of full-time experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care facility or community health agency. A bachelor's degree in nursing or a national certification in a nursing specialty may substitute for one year of the required experience. A master's degree in nursing may substitute for two years of the required experience.
Knowledge of: Current principles, techniques, and procedures in professional nursing; medical terminology; patient care routines; medical instruments and equipment; uses and effects of medicines and narcotics; community resources; federal, state, and local laws governing nursing; discharge needs; payor source documentation requirements.
Ability to: Perform full range of nursing duties; plan and organize nursing care; prepare and maintain records; establish effective working relationships; instruct entry-level nurses and ancillary personnel; evaluate medical records; identify discharge needs.
Pay
Per Diem Rates:
- Registered Nurse II MC/CHC Per Diem: $70.8141 per hour
- Registered Nurse III MC/CHC Per Diem: $80.2448 per hour
Shift Differentials:
- Evening Shift (6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.): $2.50 per hour
- Night Shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.): $5.00 per hour
- Critical Care Pay Differential: $4.00 per hour
- Specialty Team Differential: $4.00 per hour
Specialty Care/Critical Care differentials apply following completion of required specialty training, attainment of certifications, and departmental authorization to work independently.
Schedule
3/12, Night Shift (6:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.). 8 shifts required in a 6-week period based on department needs, with at least two shifts on the weekend.
