Registered Nurse II - ART 7E Oncology

Job Summary/Purpose

The Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.

About the Role

ART 7 East is a dynamic 19-bed unit dedicated to the care of adult oncology and medical-surgical patients. The unit expertly manages complex cancer diagnoses, including both hematologic malignancies and solid organ tumors, and provides specialized care for patients receiving high-risk chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and those enrolled in clinical trials. The unit also addresses treatment-related side effects with close monitoring and individualized interventions. In addition to oncology patients, ART 7 East cares for a diverse medical-surgical population ranging from moderate to high acuity, offering a challenging and rewarding clinical environment.

Responsibilities

• Provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process;
• Delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results;
• Completes the National Cancer Institute Collaborative Systemic Therapies Course within the first year to achieve chemotherapy competency, with ongoing opportunities for advanced, cancer-specific education;
• Encourages specialty certification in oncology, medical-surgical nursing, and palliative care, fostering professional growth and excellence in patient-centered care.

Requirements

• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state;
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider;
• Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, working outside in temperature extremes, working from elevated areas, working in confined/cramped spaces, performing job functions from kneeling positions, bending at the waist, twisting at the waist, reaching overhead, reaching in all directions, lifting and carrying 50 lbs. unassisted, lifting/lowering objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted, lifting from 36" to overhead 25 lbs., exerting up to 50 lbs. of force, maintaining 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes, seeing and recognizing objects close at hand or at a distance, matching or discriminating between colors, determining distance/relationship between objects; depth perception, good peripheral vision capabilities, maintaining hearing acuity, with correction, performing gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements, dealing effectively with stressful situations, working rotating shifts, working overtime as required, working in a latex safe environment, maintaining tactile sensory functions, and if selected, maintaining good olfactory sensory function and being qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred;
• RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date;
• A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.
