Registered Nurse I, Acute Care - Medical Inpatient Unit, Per Diem

As a Registered Professional Nurse I in Acute Care, you will deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care and contribute to interdisciplinary teamwork during your first year of practice. This role includes participation in our Nurse Residency program, with advancement to RN II expected within 12–15 months.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, deliver, coordinate, integrate, and evaluate nursing care tailored to patient needs.
- Collect, analyze, and record accurate patient health data with minimal exceptions (≤5).
- Identify patient problems and expected outcomes with minimal exceptions (≤3).
- Develop and implement a plan of care with interventions to achieve outcomes (≤3 exceptions).
- Evaluate patient progress toward goals (≤3 exceptions).
- Adhere to research-based practice standards (≤3 exceptions).
- Direct and supervise care provided by LPNs and support personnel 100% of the time.
- Demonstrate safety, cost-effectiveness, and efficient use of equipment/materials.
- Document all patient care activities accurately (80–100% compliance for RN I).
- Perform and document Point of Care (POC) testing and quality control 100% of the time.
- Maintain POC testing reagents, supplies, and equipment per laboratory procedures.
- Advocate for patient autonomy, dignity, and rights.
- Deliver non-judgmental, culturally sensitive care (100% compliance).
- Ensure informed consent for indicated procedures (100% compliance).
- Act ethically on behalf of patients (100% compliance).
- Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses.
- Maintain current licensure and complete required unit credentialing.
- Submit orientation checklist and evidence of training/competency validation.
- Participate in annual educational activities (hours vary by pathway).
- Engage in nursing research and advance nursing science.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 2-year Associate Degree in Nursing, or Vocational/Technical Diploma in Professional Nursing, required.
- 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, preferred.
- New graduate or less than one year of experience as a Registered Nurse, required.
- NYS licensure as a Registered Nurse or valid interim permit, required.
- BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
- Additional certifications may be required based on department needs.
All RNs hired without a BSN must enroll in a bachelor’s-prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire and complete it within 10 years. RNs licensed on or before 12/19/17 are exempt.

Pay
Salary is based on qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and market evaluation. Hourly range: $40.20–$59.52.
