Registered Nurse I, Acute Care

As a Registered Professional Nurse I in Acute Care, you will deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care while contributing to interdisciplinary teamwork. This role is designed for new nurses in their first year of practice, with built-in support and a clear pathway to advance to RN II within 12-15 months.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care and services to patients across the lifespan in various settings, aligned with your education and licensure.
- Collect, analyze, and record patient health data accurately, with minimal exceptions as measured by supervisory review.
- Analyze assessment data to identify patient problems, ensuring high accuracy in clinical judgments.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans that describe interventions to achieve expected patient outcomes.
- Evaluate patient progress toward goals and adjust care plans as needed.
- Adhere to research-based practice standards and evidence-based protocols.
- Direct and supervise care provided by LPNs and support personnel 100% of the time, following department guidelines.
- Demonstrate safety awareness, effective resource utilization, and cost-conscious care.
- Document all patient care activities accurately (80-100% compliance for RN I) as measured by preceptor and supervisory review.
- Perform and document Point of Care (POC) testing and quality control in accordance with laboratory policies (100% compliance for RN I).
- Maintain and document testing reagents, supplies, and equipment per established procedures (100% compliance for RN I).
- Advocate for patients to preserve their autonomy, dignity, and rights.
- Deliver care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner, sensitive to patient diversity (100% compliance).
- Ensure patients provide informed consent for indicated procedures (100% compliance).
- Act ethically on behalf of patients, adhering to the ANA Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses.
- Maintain current licensure and provide validation to your supervisor proactively.
- Complete required unit credentialing, orientation checklists, and competency validations by deadlines.
- Participate in a level-appropriate number of educational hours annually, related to your role.
- Engage in nursing research, including identifying clinical problems and assisting in data collection.
- Perform other duties as assigned and observed by your supervisor or manager.
Requirements
- 2-year Associate Degree in Nursing or Vocational/Technical Diploma from a Professional Nursing Program (required).
- 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred).
- All RNs hired without a BSN must enroll in a bachelor’s-prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire and complete it within 10 years. (RNs licensed on or before 12/19/17 are exempt.)
- New graduate or less than one year of experience as a Registered Nurse (required).
- NYS licensure as a Registered Nurse or valid interim permit (required).
- BLS certification (required within 6 months of hire).
- Additional certifications may be required based on department needs.

Physical Requirements

- Frequent: Fit testing, exposure to bodily fluids/bloodborne pathogens.
- Constant: Typing, grasping, hearing, repetitive motion, seeing/monitor/computer use, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, walking.
Hazards & Working Conditions
- Hazards: Occasional exposure to radiation/radiant energy; frequent exposure to bodily fluids/bloodborne pathogens.
- Working Conditions: Occasional noise, vibration, wet/humid environments; frequent odors.
Occasional travel may be required, but not on a regular basis.

Pay
Salary is based on qualifications, experience, education, licensure, specialty, training, and industry standards. The pay range for this role is $40.20–$59.52 per hour.
A sign-on bonus of $20,000 is available for full-time RNs (excluding management). Current employees are not eligible. Bonus details and eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.
