About the role
The GI Surgical Oncology Unit on 12E specializes in the care of a variety of post-surgical patients at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Nurses here gain extensive experience and knowledge in complex surgical care, including ileostomies, colostomies, artificial airways, negative pressure wound therapy, chest tubes, venous dopplers, and leech therapy.
Responsibilities
- Advocate: Practices patient-centered care, develops individualized nursing plans, advocates for patient rights, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team.
- Clinical Expert: Continuously improves clinical skills through education and specialty certifications, shares knowledge with peers, and evaluates patient responses to interventions.
- Community Volunteer: Participates in volunteer initiatives and contributes to the community.
- Compassionate: Demonstrates interpersonal skills, addresses patient concerns, and provides compassionate care.
- Professionally Engaged: Engages in professional organizations, committees, and tasks, and participates in innovation and quality improvement projects.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an NLN accredited school/college of nursing
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or higher
- Current State of Illinois, Registered Professional Nurse license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR through American Heart Association
