About the Role
The Registered Nurse provides assistance to the licensed medical provider in surgical and aesthetic settings, delivering safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, and individualized care to all patients.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a patient advocate during patient exams and treatments.
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs, weight, and height.
- Escort patients to examination, procedure, or operative rooms and prepare them for the physician.
- Record patients' medical history, medications, allergies, vital statistics, and test results in medical records.
- Ensure proper consent forms are obtained prior to preparing a patient for treatment.
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician, following safety protocols (right dose, right patient, right route, right drug, and noting expiration date).
- Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing.
- Explain perioperative procedures and provide discharge instructions verbally and in writing.
- Prepare the room and patient for surgery, including administering local anesthesia, prepping, and draping the patient.
- Assist the surgeon with surgical instruments and supplies while maintaining aseptic technique during sterile procedures.
- Under surgeon direction, provide prescription information to the patient’s preferred pharmacy.
- Inspect sterile items prior to opening and organize supplies on the sterile field.
- Assist the physician with surgical procedures while maintaining a sterile field.
- Perform suture removals and assess post-operative surgical wounds.
- Monitor the patient’s condition throughout exams, procedures, or surgeries and notify the physician of any distress.
- Clean rooms and medical equipment between patients and at the end of the day.
- Correctly dispose of infectious waste and biohazard materials.
- Schedule patient appointments and change wound dressings.
- Greet patients arriving at the surgery center.
- Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patient tests and/or admissions.
- Inventory and assess the need for instruments, supplies, and equipment while keeping the room stocked.
- Perform accurate and timely documentation of all procedures.
- Respond to emergency situations based on nursing standards, policies, and protocols, ensuring familiarity with equipment and supplies.
- Assist physicians in medical emergencies for patients, employees, or visitors and ensure proper documentation per facility policy.
- Inventory and order medical emergency supplies monthly and ensure all equipment is in proper working order.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures while supporting a culture of high quality and great customer service.
- Perform other duties as necessary or in the best interest of the organization.
