About the role
Oceans Behavioral Hospital Greater New Orleans is dedicated to helping adults and seniors manage mental health issues through proven therapies. The hospital offers a range of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric counseling and treatment options.
Responsibilities
- Utilizes the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation to develop an individualized plan of care and treatment modalities.
- Identifies risk levels, precautions, and expected outcomes for each patient, including discharge planning; prescribes interventions to achieve expected outcomes; evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
- Demonstrates knowledge of psychiatric disorders and appropriate nursing interventions; implements nursing interventions identified in the plan of care.
- Administers medications safely; provides education on prescribed medications; recognizes signs and symptoms of adverse drug reactions.
- Reviews, revises, and updates medical records within facility guidelines and timeframes; transcribes and implements physician's orders according to facility policy; documents care, progress, response to intervention in medical record in an accurate, thorough, and concise manner.
- Follows up on client care responsibilities, communicates incomplete assignments, and current client needs to staff to assure continuity of care.
- Floats among various clinical services, performing other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications / Skills Requirements
- Current, valid, and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment.
- One year of inpatient hospital experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to adapt to a high-stress environment and assess potential for patient escalation.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, to consistently achieve positive results with internal and external customers.
- Organizational skills and understanding of cultural diversity and special needs populations.
- Critical thinking abilities and application of concepts for continuous improvement of patient care.
- Self-confidence and ability to lead and direct others.
- Successfully completes CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program.
Pay

Schedule
Rotating 12-hour shifts in a high-paced, stressful environment subject to many interruptions and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
