Position Summary

Position Accountabilities

• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
• Determines and documents initial nursing histories, assesses patients' conditions, and develops individual care plans for patients assigned to the unit.
• Oversees the delivery of patient care for a group of patients; directs and delegates patient care assignments to nursing staff based on acuteness of patient care needs and staff availability.
• Administers and controls narcotics and medications.
• Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
• Assists providers with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
• Observes emotional stability of patients, expresses interest in their progress and prepares for continuing care after discharge.
• Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patient's medical treatment.
• Responds to code calls and directs codes when no physician is available.
• Assists other members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines.
• Provides health care instruction to patient and family members.
• Establishes and maintains communication between the nursing unit and ancillary department for the purpose of problem solving.
• Utilizes appropriate lines of communication within the nursing department.
• Arranges for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
• Orients, instructs, and trains assigned personnel.
• Assists in formulating and screening Quality Assurance criteria and providing in-service training for staff.
• Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops.
• Attends meetings as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
