Responsibilities

  • Perform and document accurate initial and ongoing assessments to evaluate patient conditions and needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to address identified patient needs and goals.
  • Administer medications accurately and appropriately as ordered, monitoring patient responses and adjusting interventions as necessary.
  • Supervise and guide nursing personnel in delivering safe, therapeutic, and quality patient care, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Provide patient and family education about the care plan, medications, procedures, and other relevant information to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • Assist physicians with bedside procedures and prepare patients for tests, procedures, and surgeries.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by adhering to policies, procedures, and infection control protocols.
  • Document all pertinent patient care information accurately and timely in the patient's medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement and research activities by engaging in unit-based initiatives and evidence-based practice projects.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies by providing necessary interventions and coordinating with the healthcare team to stabilize patients.

Requirements

  • Associate's of Nursing [Required]
  • Bachelor's of Nursing [Preferred]
  • Knowledge of professional nursing principles and techniques, and the pharmacological process in the appropriate administration or delivery of medications.
  • Basic computer skills – must be able to navigate Microsoft windows based programs.
  • Must be fluent in English (read, verbal and written skills).
  • 1 year of nursing experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Equipment use to stabilize and monitor patients (IV insertion, central lines, pulse ox, NG tubes, Foley, chest tubes, hemodynamics monitoring), including electronic medical record and automated dispensing medication system (pyxis).
  • Proficient clinical skills, critical thinking skills, and strong communication skills.
  • Commitment to hourly patient rounding and EKG interpretation class.
  • Frequent independent judgment, sound professional judgment and critical-thinking skills in clinical situations, including clinical assessment, data, and patient response.
  • Ability to continuously prioritize multiple duties and function in a calm and professional manner during stressful situations.
  • General knowledge of professional nursing principles and techniques, and the ability to work as a team player within a unit.
  • Effective verbal and oral communication and problem-solving skills.
  • EKG (based on patient population; see document EKG and Advanced Life Support Requirements).

  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) [Preferred]
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) [Preferred]
  • Oncology Nurse Society (ONS) [Preferred]
  • S.T.A.B.L.E. Certification [Preferred]
  • Trauma Nurse Course Certified (TNCC) [Preferred]
  • Critical Care Medicine Certification (CCMC) [Preferred]
  • NonViolent Crisis Intervention Program [Preferred]
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (CEFM) [Preferred]
  • Neonatal Med Certification (NEONATAL MED) [Preferred]
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]

Skills

  • Ability to use a high level of abstract reasoning to assess patient, evaluate interventions, and revise plan of care according to patient outcomes.
