Registered Nurse - Float Pool - F/T Days

Hackensack Meridian Health seeks a Registered Nurse to function as a caregiver for a specific patient population, expanding knowledge and skills while providing effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team for a variety of complex patients. This role directs and oversees care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination, and effectively coordinates patient care and unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.

Responsibilities

A Registered Nurse delivers nursing practices according to the most up-to-date evidence-based research, nursing policies, and standards of care to provide and ensure safe and excellent individualized patient care. Key responsibilities include:

• Assessment
  • Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
  • Performs age- and disease-specific assessment/data collection independently in a systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
  • Recognizes clinical and diagnostic status changes in patient condition.
  • Identifies variables in patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and culturally specific learning differences.
• Planning
  • Develops a plan of care that prescribes strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Formulates age- and disease-specific, patient/family-centered goals/outcomes based on assessment data.
  • Develops and coordinates a plan of care that is patient/family-focused, prioritized, and encompasses the continuum of care.
• Implementation
  • Communicates, coordinates, and implements the plan of care.
  • Provides ongoing communication with patient/family, nursing colleagues, and other members of the healthcare team regarding patient status, rendered care, and treatment plans.
  • Implements age- and disease-specific care in an organized and timely manner.
  • Provides or coordinates patient/family education as needed and ensures understanding.
  • Performs according to established protocols in clinical situations, including communicating with appropriate persons and documenting events.
  • Provides nursing care and treatments reflecting patient needs, advocates appropriately, and demonstrates evidence-based practice and compliance with standards.
  • Performs continuous Point-of-Care electronic documentation of each patient's assessments, plan-of-care, interventions, and evaluation of rendered care.
  • Administers medication utilizing bar-scanning and documentation technologies to ensure safe delivery.
  • Facilitates multi-disciplinary discharge of patients to ensure safe transitioning and continuum of care.
• Evaluation
  • Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills based on nursing knowledge to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Initiates interventions related to patient's change in condition and unexpected response to care.
• Additional Responsibilities
  • Identifies ethical issues in the practice setting and brings them to the attention of other team members.
  • Recognizes and responds to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Acquires and maintains competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet facility accreditation or individual licensing requirements.
  • Adheres to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
  • Lifts a minimum of 35 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 10 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.
  • Adheres to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Requirements

• A minimum of an Associate in Nursing or diploma in Nursing degree.
• BSN in progress and/or willing to acquire within three (3) years of hire (applies to team members hired on or after November 2019). For union roles (P4567U, CC456U, CC689U, CC891U), BSN is required within five years of hire. Advanced master's degree in nursing programs (e.g., Associates to MSN) satisfy the BSN requirement.
• Six (6) or more months of relevant nursing experience OR active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.
• Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing patient needs, and demonstrate a strong sense of accountability for improving patients' and caregivers' lives.
• Exceptional focus on teamwork, dedication to ongoing education, and ability to deliver high-quality care with a strong patient focus.

Qualifications

• National Certification in area of specialty preferred when eligible.
• Current and valid Registered Nurse license to work at the assigned HMH location by date of hire.
• BLS/CPR certification by the American Heart Association required within 60 days of hire.

Pay

Minimum starting rate of $46.25 per hour. The posted rate is a reasonable good-faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting and may vary based on non-discriminatory factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding. Full-time and part-time (20+ hours/week) positions may be eligible for shift differentials, performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions.
