Essential Job Functions

  • Adheres to organizational policies and professional guidelines.

Professional Practice

  • Adheres to Wyoming State Board of Nursing and ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.
  • Performs a head-to-toe assessment and reassessments as per policy.
  • Formulates and revises an individualized plan of care based on patient responses.
  • Evaluates the overall daily plan for effectiveness.
  • Adequately assesses and reassesses pain, utilizing appropriate pain management techniques.
  • Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
  • Develops and implements a teaching plan based on identified learning needs.
  • Documents care according to current standards and policies.
  • Assists physicians with procedures and performs services within the scope of practice.
  • Communicates with all health care team members and consults other departments as needed.
  • Provides care appropriate to the disease condition and age of the patient.
  • Maintains department competencies.

Quality

  • Performs all aspects of patient care to optimize safety and reduce medical errors.
  • Assesses and reassesses patients for pain management.
  • Collaborates with social service/discharge planners to address post-discharge needs.
  • Communicates with patients and families about pain management and educates them.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of teaching plans.

Treatment

  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with all departments.
  • Functions as a liaison between patients, physicians, other healthcare providers, and administration.
  • Provides care appropriate to the disease condition and age of the patient.
  • Assists physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
  • Reports significant events affecting the safe delivery of patient-centered care.

Department Key Responsibilities

  • Provides direct and indirect professional nursing care for patients in various units.
  • Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs.
  • Communicates with physicians about changes in a patient’s clinical condition.
  • Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
  • Functions independently in critical situations until a physician is on site.
  • Maintains department competencies.
  • Provides care in the Pediatric Unit, Intensive Care Unit, Medical Surgical Unit, Women’s Health, Emergency Department, Behavioral Health Unit, Transitional Care Unit, and any other area assigned.
  • Works in the Pediatric Unit as a top priority, with House Supervisors determining daily needs.
  • Provides basic airway management and functions competently during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Assesses and cares for patients in the immediate post-anesthesia period.
  • Maintains department competencies.

Qualifications

  • Current unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Associate degree in Nursing required, BSN preferred.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit assignment.
  • A minimum of two years of inpatient nursing experience.
  • ACLS certification, required.
  • ENPC or PALS certification required.
  • TNCC certification, required within one year of the position start date.
  • De-escalation training within 60 days of the start date, is required.
  • NRP certification, required within 6 months of hire.
  • If employee has completed the required certification(s) prior to hire/rehire that have lapsed, then completion of certification renewal during the department/position orientation period or completion of the next available certification course will meet this requirement.

  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Participates in continuing education activities within the department and organization.
  • Attends and actively participates in departmental staff meetings.
  • Stays updated with clinical practice and evidence-based practice guidelines.
  • Stays informed about organizational policies and procedures.
